Getting Started and Basics

What is SimVSM and who is the app suitable for?

SimVSM is a digital value stream app for value stream analysis and simulation in production, logistics and administrative processes. It is aimed at specialists and managers who wish to model, evaluate and improve processes visually.

What sizes of organisation is SimVSM suitable for?

SimVSM is suitable for both small teams and large organisations with multiple sites.

Can SimVSM be used effectively even without simulation?

Yes. Many users employ SimVSM solely for analysis, without utilising the simulation function.

Do I need prior knowledge of simulation?

No. SimVSM is designed for beginners with no programming knowledge.

What distinguishes SimVSM from a traditional, paper-based value stream analysis?

The traditional method cannot depict dynamic interactions between processes, such as buffer sizes or the impact of set-up times. SimVSM enhances the analysis with drag-and-drop modelling, real-time collaboration, automatic key figure calculation and simulation.

Features and areas of application

What features does SimVSM offer for modelling value streams?

SimVSM offers project management, a value stream library for drag-and-drop modelling, support for multi-product and media continuity, and automatic calculation of key performance indicators.

Can I also carry out simulations with SimVSM, not just analyses?

Yes, SimVSM includes an integrated simulation function. The effects of parameter changes can be visualised directly.

Does SimVSM support the continuous improvement process (CIP)?

Yes, amongst other things through version comparisons and the documentation of changes over time.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in SimVSM

How does the automatic digitisation of value streams using AI work?

A photo of the value stream map created using analogue methods – for example, using brown paper, symbols and sticky notes (see the SIEBEN value stream kit) – is all that is needed. The SimVSM app automatically recognises symbols and structure and converts the image into a digital model that can be used directly for analysis and optimisation.

Do I need to redraw my value stream map for digitisation?

No. The AI function automatically imports the map created manually, so there is no need for manual transfer.

Since when has the AI feature been available?

Automatic value stream digitisation via AI has been available in the App Store versions of SimVSM since version 3.17 (January 2026).

Licences, versions and prices

What versions of SimVSM are available?

SimVSM is available as a free version, as well as in Standard, Premium and Ultimate editions. For businesses with more extensive requirements, SimVSM Pro is available with bespoke pricing.

What is the difference between the SaaS version and the on-premises installation?

SimVSM is available either as Software-as-a-Service in the cloud or as an on-premises installation on your own infrastructure. Both versions can be used via a web browser, tablet or smartphone.

What additional features does SimVSM Pro offer?

SimVSM Pro offers server integration and centralised project management for businesses with greater coordination needs.

Technology and Integration

On which platforms is SimVSM available?

SimVSM is available as an app on the Apple App Store, Microsoft Store and Google Play Store, and can also be used as a web application via a browser. For businesses, the SimVSM Pro version is available as a desktop application on request.

Can SimVSM be integrated with existing systems?

Integration with existing systems is possible via web services, for example for validation, price calculation or data transfer. This is a bespoke adaptation that SimPlan implements on a project-by-project basis.

Where can I download SimVSM?

SimVSM is available to download free of charge from the three app stores mentioned. There are also product leaflets and further resources available.
