What can SimVSM do?

Tablet mit SimVSM

SimVSM provides you with a comprehensive tool that combines traditional value stream analysis with the possibilities offered by digitalisation. Production and logistics processes can be modelled digitally from the outset or, with the aid of AI-supported value stream capture, imported, analysed and evaluated using integrated simulations.

Value stream analysis provides transparency regarding processes, stock levels, lead times, and the flow of materials and information, thereby forming an important basis for process optimisation.

With SimVSM, this approach can be taken further digitally: value streams can not only be captured and documented, but also adapted, compared and evaluated using relevant key performance indicators. This allows different process variants to be systematically examined and improvement measures to be assessed more thoroughly. Whether in the office, on the shop floor or directly on site at the process: SimVSM supports value stream analysis from the initial assessment through modelling and analysis to the evaluation of different scenarios.

SimVSM guides you through clearly defined steps, from initial modelling to the analysed simulation.

Build the model
You create a new project and drag and drop the required value stream objects into the modelling area.
You then link the objects via material and information flows and define the key input parameters for each process, from the customer right through to the final production step.

Supplementing the framework conditions
Shift calendars define when each process is active. The information flow is supplemented as required using note objects and text fields, for example for planning specifications or control logic.

Checking the model
Static KPIs such as cycle times show immediately during modelling whether the inputs are plausible.
A check function ensures that all objects are correctly connected before the simulation starts.

Simulate and evaluate
Once the simulation duration has been set, start the calculation.
The results show, amongst other things, lead times, process utilisation and stock levels, and can be compared with other model variants.

How are projects managed in SimVSM?

Projects can be created, copied, opened and deleted centrally in SimVSM. You can start new projects from the home screen and select existing projects from an overview list. This structure makes it easier to manage multiple value streams or variants in parallel.

The toolbar summarises the most important areas:

  • Projects: opens the home screen showing all created projects
  • Modelling: opens the overview screen for editing the value stream
  • Results: displays the results of the modelling, if already available
  • Project settings: opens the settings for the respective project
  • Alternatives: displays created modelling variants. From here, you can run calculations or delete models

Project settings

The products for the respective value stream are created and managed centrally in the project settings.
Use the “New” button to add further product names; names that are no longer required can be deleted.
You can also create shift schedules here and define the simulation duration for the project.

Modelling: Creating value streams using drag and drop

Elements from the value stream library can be inserted directly into the model using drag and drop. Processes, warehouses, transport routes and customers are thus linked step by step to form a complete value stream model.

Each object can be customised individually, for example with processing times, set-up times or stock levels. Additional objects such as notes, tables or background images help to further document the model.

Digitising analogue value streams using AI

SimVSM’s AI function also allows value stream diagrams created in analogue form to be quickly converted into a digital model. To do this, the value stream diagram – for example, on brown paper or using value stream maps – is simply photographed. SimVSM recognises the structures depicted and automatically generates a digital value stream model from them.

This means that workshops can still be conducted in analogue form, whilst analysis, further processing and simulation can then be carried out directly in SimVSM.

SimVSM Licence Model

SimVSM is available as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and for on-premises installation.

The application can be run entirely in the cloud or, as is common with most corporate customers, installed on-premises on your own infrastructure. In both cases, it can be accessed via a web browser as well as on tablets and smartphones.

Updates and maintenance are carried out automatically with the SaaS version. For on-premises installations, they are carried out following consultation with the IT department. This allows you to choose the model that best suits your requirements and security policies.
