Capture analogue value stream maps using photos and analyse them directly in SimVSM
In many lean projects, value stream analysis deliberately begins in analogue form. Processes are recorded on the wall using symbols, cards and sticky notes in a team effort, for example with the value stream map kit from SIEBEN Consulting. This working method is well established and promotes a shared understanding of the process.
However, this has traditionally required an additional step for digital processing. Analogue value stream maps had to be recreated manually, which is time-consuming and prone to errors.
The latest SimVSM release now offers a new AI feature that eliminates this media discontinuity. The SimVSM app automatically recognises analogue value stream images and generates a digital value stream model from them in a matter of seconds.
How automatic digitisation works
The process is deliberately kept simple and fits into existing workshop formats.
First, the value stream is set up as usual with cards from our partner SIEBEN and symbols. Then, a photo of the value stream map is taken with the SimVSM app. The integrated AI analyses the image and automatically converts the value stream into a digital model that can be further processed and analysed directly in the app.
Added value for analysis and improvement
The AI feature significantly reduces the manual effort involved in digitisation and minimises typical transcription errors. At the same time, proven lean methods and analogue workshop formats are retained in their entirety.
Teams can move more quickly from data collection to analysis, evaluate static key figures directly and examine variants in the digital model. Monotonous tasks are eliminated, leaving more time for root cause analysis and improvement measures.
Availability
The AI feature is now part of the SimVSM app and available with the current release. The app can be downloaded from the usual app stores.
